Action improves efficiency thanks to Ctac’s XV5 point-of-sale system

International discount retailer benefits from fundamental building block for (inter)national expansion

‘s Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, 19 February 2019 – International discount retailer Action is enjoying the first benefits of the optimization of its point-of-sale system (POS) XV Retail and Omni Customer Loyality program (OCL), realized by Business & Cloud Integrator Ctac. To better support the retailer’s growth strategy, Ctac developed a version 5 of the XV Retail Suite, which was implemented on a new technological platform. Its improved functionality and the strongly reduced implementation time of this solution helps Action to create a sturdier foundation for further (inter)national expansion and innovation in retail.

The optimization and implementation of the new solution had an extremely tight, yet manageable deadline. The more than 1,300 Action stores in Western Europe were migrated within just 6.5 weeks.

Need for speed and scalability
Much of the Action stores’ product selection changes on a continuous basis; between 150 and 200 new products arrive every week. Following the implementation of the optimized POS system, Action is able to handle even larger volumes and capable of flexibly scaling up and down. In addition, all cash registers in the stores are linked to the XV Retail Online Server. This way, the registers are always connected and any price changes are always adjusted accordingly. This saves the cashiers a lot of work. Another benefit is that when Action opens a new store, that store is up and running a lot quicker. Simply inputting the address is enough, the rest is taken care of in an automated manner.

“The customer doesn’t notice the new software,” says Jens Burgers, Director IT at Action. “But what the customer does notice, is that we’re more efficient, which leads to the ability to keep the costs and prices low. In other words: IT helps keeping the customers happy.”
